First XI Update
The First XI season has been up and running for the past three weeks with training being held out in Wesley College. Numbers have been excellent with several new faces bolstering the ranks and very few disappearances from last year. Brian O'Rourke has again been overseeing these sessions and plenty of time has been put into getting back into form through small but effective drills. The group plan to begin outdoor work this coming Thursday April 5th in Clontarf CC, making use of the excellent facilities available there.
On the field, the playing season kicks off this week with a friendly against touring English side Sunbury CC, who will include in their ranks Ireland's star of the recent World T20 qualifiers, Paul Stirling. Whilst the Trinity bowling attack may be hoping Stirling sits Saturday out, spectators who happen upon College Park in early April may find themselves with a batting display worth watching.
Trinity will be hoping to hit the ground running against unfamiliar opposition in a game that is likely to be one of the toughest in recent years. Eoghan Conway enjoyed a prolific debut season in 2011 and will be hoping to continue in this vein, both with bat and ball. Hughie Pike showed several times that he is a powerful striker of the ball and will look to build on the experiences he gained last year. The "veteran" middle order of Delany, Bouch and Forrest may find themselves with stiff competition from this year's Freshmen, all keen to make an impression. The bowling attacks has many strings to its bow this year and it's unlikely to settle into one distinct line-up. No doubt that Mohd. Amir Anwar will be seen to take the new ball for the fourth year running though. The side is to be announced on the website this coming Thursday evening, with several places still up for grabs.
Further friendlies will be played on the following dates:
April 22nd - Terenure CC (College Park, 12.00)
April 25th - Leprechauns CC (College Park, 14.00)
The league kicks off on Saturday April 28th with a tricky home fixture against Malahide CC (12.30 start). More updates and match reviews to follow throughout the season, providing a fair and just reflection of cricket in DUCC...unlike Stu Daultrey.
